Testimonials

Participation in the 2011 ASTA Annual Convention provided an outstanding opportunity for valuable discussion of topics which will greatly influence the future of agriculture and the seed industry. I found the Operation Student Connection to be a very rewarding and valuable experience and am truly grateful for the funding and coordination efforts.

__________

The main value of the convention was the possibility to make contacts with the seed industry. It permitted me to meet people from different companies which can be very important in my professional future once I graduate.

__________

The convention provided me with a valuable experience. I now have a greated knowledge and appreciation of the seed industry. I have made some important contacts with some key players in the industry.

__________

I will be taking great pleasure in recommending the OSC program to other students.

__________

Attending the ASTA meetings in Chicago as part of Operation Student Connection was a great opportunity, I was able to attend meetings and gain exposure to different aspects of the seed industry. The interaction with people from various seed companies, especially plant breeders, was very beneficial in providing an insight into the responsibilities associated with various positions within those companies. The knowledge gained from attending the talks and the meetings and the conversations that I had while participating in Operation Student Connection will prove to be beneficial as a continue my education and pursue a career in the seed industry.

__________

I think the Operation Student Connection was a great experience, and allowed me to make great contacts in the seed industry. I am currently working on a PhD in Plant Breeding at Purdue University, and OSC allowed me to meet several plant breeders from both small and large companies. In addition to giving me a feel for how careers in industry work, I was able to get my name out there to people in the industry. In addition the participants were able to sit in on several committee meetings and presentations on subjects relevant to the seed industry such as government regulation, international transfer and transportation of genetic materials, and research funding. Operation Student Connection really opened up my eyes to plant breeding and seed production outside of an academic setting.

__________

As a graduate student studying Plant Breeding, Operation Student Connection was a great experience. Besides just getting to meet many of the top names in the seed industry, I was able to witness how decisions are made that affect the entire business. It was also good to observe competing companies work together for the industry’s good. I appreciated the welcome that the others and I received at the conference, and I encourage others to apply. Thanks for the opportunity!

__________

For anyone considering a career in the seed industry, Operation Student Connection is a valuable experience. Held in conjunction with the American Seed Trade Association Annual Convention, it provides students with an opportunity to participate in meetings that help to shape the future of the seed industry. Unlike other professional meetings, this program has a strong focus on students and opportunities available as future seed industry professionals. Two months after the program I was offered a commercial corn breeding position. The connections I made at the OSC program were directly responsible for the chain of a events that led to my job offer.
